Sunrise Nursery

Educational Goals

Sunrise Nursery believes that early learning is the key to your child’s future.  We aim to ensure that all children have good health, are happy, feel safe and are successful. We do this by delivering the EARLY YEARS FOUNDATION STAGE (EYFS) to all our children.

The EYFS covers children’s development from birth to the end of their first year at school (Reception). The EYFS Framework describes how we work with your child and your family to support your child’s development and learning. It describes how children should be kept safe and cared for and how all concerned can make sure that children achieve the most they can in their earliest years. It is compulsory for us to deliver the EYFS and OFSTED regularly inspects us by the EYFS standards.

The EYFS is divided into 3 Phases:

Phases 1 and 2              Phases 3 and 4      Phases 5 and 6

Birth to 20 Months        16 months to 36 months 30 months to 60+ months.

While your child is at Sunrise Nursery we will record examples of things they do. We will take photographs and make notes to show how your child is developing. These observations will be gathered into their own Personal Profile which will be passed on to you when your child leaves us. This information is very helpful when they move to school, where the EYFS will be completed.

There are four important Themes and Principles to the EYFS:

Theme: A Unique Child...

Principle: Every child is a competent learner from birth who can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured.

This theme is about how your child develops; every child is different, but they should all be treated equally. Positive relationships and good communication are vital. Your child needs to learn about risks and safety, how to make good choices, and how to stick to boundaries. They will do this best when all their physical and emotional needs are met.

Theme: Positive Relationships...

Principle: Children learn to be strong and independent from a base of loving and secure relationships.

This theme is about how your child learns to manage their feelings and build relationships. We will respect all kinds of families and aim to develop a positive two-way relationship with all our parents. We will support, listen to and work with all the children to help them learn. Every child has a key person within the nursery who is responsible for their observations and written profiles. These can be seen by you at any time, please just ask a member of staff.

Theme: Enabling Environments...

Principle: The environment plays a key role in supporting and extending children’s development and learning.

This theme is about how we plan for and check on your child’s progress. We will involve you in this. We will ensure that inside and outside spaces are safe, interesting and engaging. We will support your child as they move on, working as a team to help your child succeed.

Theme: Learning and Developing...

Principle: Children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates and all areas of Learning and Development are equally important and interconnected.

This theme is about how your child will learn – through play and exploration, with adult support. We will encourage your child to develop their imagination, to become actively involved in learning and to make decisions. We will develop your child’s creative and critical thinking, balancing the need for both the children and adults to lead the learning.
